Preparation for the Langgymnasium

IN ZOLLIKON, KÜSNACHT and zürich

In order to be able to enter the Langgymnasium after the 6th primary class, pupils must pass the central entrance examination (ZAP 2024). For optimal preparation, we offer pupils in the 6th primary class an exclusive course programme with competent and personal support in small groups of up to a maximum of 5 students. During the course, all exam-relevant learning content is practised and reviewed at a high level. Outside of the course time, the children are supported in their learning via WhatsApp; questions are answered within 12 hours. In the monthly feedback to the parents, the cooperation is optimally designed. The preparation is divided into two courses: In preparation course 1, the basics are deepened

The topics covered at school are consolidated at the highest performance level and initial examination tasks are solved. Attention is paid to mastering the core competencies in both German and mathematics.

In German, these include the structure of the essay as well as grammatical knowledge of nouns and verbs. In mathematics, the core competences include basic written operations and calculating with decimals, fractions and units of measurement.
In the preparatory course 2, the students are familiarised in depth with different types of tasks in the entrance examination. In addition to the appropriate use of problem-solving strategies, the students learn about the crunch points of individual types of problems. The examination material is diligently practised and the learning progress is continuously monitored

The intensive sports holiday course is dedicated to comprehensive exam training. Entrance exams are solved and any gaps are closed.

The course is taught by one teacher per subject, at least one of whom is a member of the school management.

FAQ

Optimal preparation begins one year before the examination. In grade 5, it is important that the pupils delve into essay writing in German and consolidate their basic knowledge in mathematics.

This is followed by preparatory courses 1 and 2, in which they are taught the specific tasks of the Gymnasium. Finally, the intensive course during the sports holidays serves as exam training.

Preparation for the entrance examination in our courses covers the entire programme. A second preparation is not recommended. Those who wish to invest more in addition to the required homework can delve deeper into the school material so that he/she gets the best possible preliminary grade, or repeat the material covered with the help of the course materials or suitable materials. Learners can also book individual lessons to deepen individual gaps in the material.

Our exam preparation includes the entrance exam to the long and short grammar school, HMS, FMS, IMS and BMS.

Our students are assessed by means of a personal interview and an assessment of their current situation. If it turns out that the student does not meet the requirements for a preparatory course for the Gymnasium, he/she can be guided towards his/her goal with the help of individual tuition. Alternative school routes can also be examined.

It is important to Adicum to create a good learning environment so that every student feels supported. Should there be a drop in performance, the parents will be contacted and together we will find a way for the student to regain courage and motivation.

Adicum builds the courses in a practical way. Through constant monitoring, the student's learning progress becomes visible. If this learning progress does not show to the desired extent, contact is made with the parents and a joint way to overcome these difficulties is sought. Our goal is to provide the best possible preparation for the entrance examination. Nevertheless, other aspects play a central role in the examination itself, such as form on the day, luck, disruptions during the examination, which cannot be influenced by Adicum, so that we cannot give a success guarantee.

In order to find a suitable Matura school, I recommend collecting information about different schools. The Matura schools also offer information evenings and possibly a visit day around November 2023. You can find information about this on the homepage https://www.zh.ch/de/bildung.html and at the respective schools.

You can register your daughter/son online via the website of the relevant school a at https://www.zh.ch/de/bildung.html. For the Gymnasium, HMS, FMS and BMS, the registration deadline is between mid-November 2023 and the beginning of February 2024. For the IMS, whose examination takes place in the autumn of the last school year, the registration deadline is the end of September of the examination year.

If your son/daughter is ill on the day of the exam, sign out at the secretary's office of the school where he/she is writing the exam and submit a doctor's certificate afterwards. The learner will then be invited to a re-examination, which usually takes place a few weeks later. An examination that has been written is deemed to have been written; poor health cannot be claimed retrospectively.

If your son/daughter comes from a public school, the report marks in the 1st semester of the 6th grade or the 2nd or 3rd secondary grade count for half. In the 6th grade these are the subjects Mathematics and German, in the secondary school the subjects Mathematics, German, French, English and Nature and Technology. The other half is the average grade of the entrance examination. Half of this mark is made up of the mathematics examination and the other half of the two German marks (language examination and essay), with both being equally weighted. The exam is considered passed if a 4.75 is achieved.

If your daughter/son comes from a public school, only the examination marks count, half the mathematics and half the two German marks (language examination and essay). The average of these must be a 4.5 to pass the exam.

There is no oral examination.

In general, tutoring is good when it is good for the learner - which means something different for everyone. It is important that the chemistry between learner and teacher is right and that the latter speaks a language that the learner understands. Our teachers are trained for this and Adicum focuses on finding the right teacher for the learner.

If tutoring is good, it can achieve a great deal. First and foremost, good tutoring ensures that problems someone has with the school material are solved. When dealing with the material, one feels more confident, when writing an exam, one feels better, when receiving the school report, one is more joyful. Good tutoring always leads to good grades.

Learning counselling serves as a comprehensive analysis of the school situation. In case of a drop in performance, personal or family crises, frequent changes of teachers, unstable performance and lack of motivation or concentration, it is advisable to consider the school situation as a whole with the relationship environment. Often, just becoming aware of the situation has a calming effect.
